OUR HOME:  Our child day care is located in a very good area in La Mirada.  Nobody in our household smokes.  We do not drink alcohol and there isn't any in the house.  We do love animals, but there are no dogs, cats, or any other animals in our home for the protection of the children and any allergies a child may have.  The inside area of our child care is air conditioned.
The house is vacuumed 4 times a week, steamed 3 times a week, and steamed cleaned every 4 months.  The floors are mopped daily and as needed.  The back yard of the child day care is spacious and provides plenty of running room. They are good and tired when you pick up your child.  A block wall surrounds the child care back yard and the children cannot be seen from the front of the house.  The child care patio and play areas are cleaned daily with a blower.  The child care area is washed down with water 2-3 times a week as needed. About once a month the child care area is cleaned with power washer. The outside toys are cleaned at the same time.  Small toys that could end up in a child's mouth are sanitized regularly. The gardener cuts the grass twice a month. All cabinets and TVs are strapped to the wall in case of an earthquake.

KG FAMILY DAYCARE FAQ’S

How long have you been providing care?  Since February 28, 2007

Do you have 1st aid & CPR training?  Yes, everybody here has been trained.  A professional 1st aid kit is in the living room

Do you have a current state license?  Yes.  Our Program meets a variety of health and safety standards that help ensure your child will be safe. The license number is 198013111.

How many children to you care for?  It varies from 6 to 12.

What are your hours? 6 AM to 6 PM, Monday-Friday.  We have convenient hours for a parents work schedule.

What meals & supplies do I need to provide?  For infants, you need to provide the food and diapers.  For toddlers you need to provide the diapers if needed. We will provide the meals and snacks for the toddlers.  We provide the wipes.

Can I drop my child off early or pick up late sometimes?  Yes, we will always work with you. We know “stuff happens.”  Just let us know ahead of time if possible. An extra fee may apply.

What happens if you are ill?  We will stay away from the children.  We have 3 adults here so it shouldn’t be a problem.

If my child gets sick will you give him medication?  Only with written permission (state form) from the parent/guardian.  If a doctor has prescribed medicine you will need to fill out the form before we can administer any medicine.

If my child misses a day do I still have to pay?  Yes. Ask and we will explain how we make adjustments.

Do you let them watch TV?  Sometimes. They watch only programs with educational subject matter.  The programs deal with numbers, the alphabet, shapes, colors, animals etc. It’s used as a tool to teach, not as a baby sitter.

How and when do I pay?  Payment is due at the beginning of the week.  Cash or check is fine.

Do you offers sibling discounts?  Yes for full time.

Do you encourage visits from parents? Your welcome to visit any time, but we prefer not at nap time.

How do you communicate with parents?  We have discovered that most parents like to text.  You will have both our home and cell phone numbers. Phone calls are fine, but sometimes we are busy and you may have leave a message. A cell phone will be paged, and we will get back to you ASAP. When you pick up we will let you know how the child’s day went.

Can I bring my child for a pre-enrollment visit?  Yes and we encourage it.

What is your caregiver to child ratio?  Currently we are licensed for 14 children and we have 3 adults working here.

How do you discipline children?  It depends on the situation. We use “Time Outs.” The offender is separated from the group 1 minute for each year of age. For example, a 3 year old will sit down for 3 minutes.  At the beginning of the time out we get down to their level, and in a calm voice, tell them what they did wrong.  We don’t start the timer until they calm down if they are upset.  When their time is up we go through the same procedure then give them a hug.  If necessary we ask the child to apologize.  If you’ve seen the program Supernanny, we try to follow her procedures.  With infants we try keep a close eye on them and stop problems before they happen.  If there is a problem we will separate them from the group and the child will stay with a caretaker until the child calms down.  Infants get frustrated because they are unable to communicate.

Must children be immunized in order to attend?  Yes, it’s the law. You can get a waiver from the state.

What is your sick child policy?  We will call you immediately and let you know the child’s symptoms and temperature.  If necessary, you will have to pick up the child, if it’s something that may be contagious, or the child is uncomfortable.  We will do our best to make the child comfortable.

Do you allow smoking in the house?  No, it’s the law. Nobody smokes or drinks.

Are the indoor and outdoor play areas childproofed and escape proof? Yes, indoor is childproofed. Front screen door has 2 locks and an alarm if the door is opened.  The play area has a block wall and is double gated.

Do you have a sign-in and sign-out sheet?  Yes.  Date, time and person are all recorded and stored.

Who may pick up my child? Only the people you designate on a list.  You must notify us if some us if somebody other than the normal person is picking up.  They must show proper I.D. or the child will not be released.  The child will not be released to anybody who smells of alcohol or appears to be “under the influence” of anything.

Do you receive personal visitors during the day? Rarely, but if somebody does, the conversation takes place on the front porch.

Where do the children sleep?  They sleep on cots in the living room.  A fire alarm and carbon monoxide detector are in the room.  We do emergency drills every week.

Do you have a nap schedule?  Yes, around 1 P.M. to 3-3:30 P.M.

Why do you work with children?  We really enjoy it.  We worked a long time doing things we didn’t enjoy anymore.  Bob Hope once said “I’ve never worked a day in my life.”  Now we know what he means.

What do you like the most about caring for them?  Watching and helping them develop.  From encouraging them to crawl to running around the yard.  From garbled sounds they make to the question “WHY, WHY, WHY?”  But we really love watching them get out of the car and run to the front door.  Then we know the child is happy.

What do you like least about caring for them?  Answering the question “WHY, WHY?” But we answer them because the child wants to engage with us. We’re improving their communication skills, and the child is learning something. Another thing we dislike can be said with one word: POOP. But we have to deal with it. Also a child that is crying and frustrated for whatever reason, but fixing the problem for them is very rewarding.

RATES:  Our child care does not publish our rates on the Internet or discuss them on the phone.  We feel it is most important that we meet, and that you very comfortable and trust us with your child.  Price is important.  But you must believe your child will be well taken care of.  Our prices are fair and lower than the big child care centers and we don't have the high personnel turn over rate.  Plus we don't take a 2 week break in December or a week off in the spring.  Many do and will charge you full price for their vacation.  Be sure to ask when looking for child care.
